Dear Collector,
Welcome to our catalogue number 109, which contains the usual wide array of material for
your consideration and has been prepared during the recent spell of good
weather!
The Great Britain section includes some very good surface printed.
A decent range of Penny Blacks is followed by many ‘number in cross’
cancels not just on the 1841 Penny Reds but also some examples from the far more elusive Two Penny Blue series. The latter are far more difficult than their
red counterparts and our experience would suggest that the catalogue variance between Red and Blues
is more than justified. There is a wide range of Seahorses including a superb complete ‘cancelled’set
off our in mint condition, which is the first such set we have seen in many a year. This list also
contains many Royal Cypher shades mostly in mint condition.
Within the Commonwealth section, we have the final part of the Seahorse collection with more
from Ireland and most notably Nauru. The cover illustrated on the back page of this list is truly wonderful
and being addressed to Oswald Marsh is a perfect provenance especially as this cover includes the
better shade of the 10/- stamp. There cannot be many such covers around, we have certainly not seen
one before, in short a tremendous rarity of exhibition quality.
Due to a technical glitch many ‘new’ thematic listings were originally omitted from the catalogue.
These are listed as ‘LATE LOTS’ at the back of the catalogue so please check carefully if these are usually
your cup of tea.
As ever the photo plates give an indication of both the range and quality on offer.
Don’t forget that if you supply your email address to us we can notify you when each new catalogue
is published online and you will also get reminders when the closing date looms. Our email subscribers
also have the option of receiving ‘Email Daily Offers’ which cover a wide range of material. For the
most part these offers are illustrated and are generally post-free within the United Kingdom. The number
of recipients of these emails is increasing so we must be doing something right. Do you want to join
them? Simply send an email with the Subject of 'JOIN' to dailyoffers@thestampcentre.co.uk
You may fax, phone or email your bids to us and as usual we look forward to hearing from you.
Please have alternatives ready where possible in case your first choices are
unavailable.
Best Wishes,
Steven Scott.
